OPINION: We need to talk about Zach Loyd.
By: Concerned Fan
I’ll admit… when Zach Loyd was introduced as the first head coach of Lone Star Republic I wasn’t so high on the move. Unproven and lacking in experience, I wasn’t sure if his time playing for FC Dallas and the US National Team would be enough in the 3rd division of the local Dallas-Fort Worth UPSL League.
I would have liked to see the club go after the likes of Jurgen Klinsmann or Bruce Arena rather than Zach Loyd. Now Arena has taken a part time job at the New England Revolution, so he won’t be available for at least 3 months!
The UPSL team was officially formed just days after Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United. Did they not even email Mino Raiola to ask about Jose’s interest?
Schellas Hyndman, maybe? At least he has coached at this level and has a name that people might recognize locally. His son Emerson, struggling for minutes at Bournemouth on the south coast of England, would have been a great fit coming off the bench to give LSR midfielder Juan Ketterhagen a break every once in a while.
Everything started out great. Heads were held high after a hard fought 3-1 opening day loss to FF Premier. No one was worried - it’s just one loss, right?
Optimism was abound after the second game, a 1-0 home win against visiting Azul City Premier FC from Fort Worth. A shutout? Well done, coach. Kalonda Kalonda hit a screamer to win that one.
Zach was also just as instrumental in the club’s $70 BAM (Bank Account Money) signing of Juan ‘Pelon’ Salas as was the shorter drive to practices & games.
Following that shutout with a 3-2 away win at FF Premier to avenge the Game 1 loss? Huge result! Thierry-Allen Assomoi really showed his value that game.
A 5-1 home win against Somerset SC and a 1-1 away draw at FF Premier the following weekend? Wow! Earning that contract, Zach.
However, after a 3-1 home loss to Aguilas FC on Friday night, LSR has left their fan wondering if Zach Loyd is the right man for the job.
Don’t fall for the excuses - it’s their first season as a team, they didn’t even have pre-season friendly games, they’ve only ever had 9 training sessions, the jerseys aren’t funny enough. Nonsense.
The jerseys are hilarious.
What more could you need, Zach? More assistant coaches? More equipment? Some equipment? Better looking jerseys? Yeah, right.
You have to wait until Fall 2019 to get better looking jerseys than these.
What is happening to the team? I thought Zach Loyd was hired to win? How is the club supposed to build a following on Instagram @LSRsoccer with multiple losses on their record?
Two losses wasn’t a part of the deal, bro.
What would the team risk by firing him?
If anyone knows of any former MLS veterans with national team experience, a national “A” level coaching licence, and a strong local following in the North Dallas/Richardson area please email me at LSRfan.email@example.com and I will make sure the team contacts them.
Otherwise, let’s hope Zach and the skwad can turn it all around Saturday afternoon away at Somerset SC (www.somersetsoccerclub.com).
